Meet Jason, our training and logistics officer and a trek leader at Trek2Health.
Jason was nice enough to answer some questions about his experience with Trek2Health, read more below!
How did you start with Trek2Health and what drew you to it?
It all started with a recommendation from a colleague in work, who was a participant in the program. After hearing about it and looking at the Trek2Health website, I thought that this was something that I would really enjoy and benefit from, both physically and mentally.
What has been your experience with Trek2Health?
I have had a fantastic experience with Trek2Health. Although at times, it was physically challenging, it has really helped me both mentally and physically. The whole team of Trek Leaders were so welcoming and supportive due to their extensive experience.
What’s your favourite thing or memory about Trek2Health?
The final challenges at the end of each of the four modules were my favourite thing. These pushed you both mentally and physically, giving me a huge sense of achievement at the end.
What other types of industries have you worked in?
I joined the British Army at 18 years of age and ended up serving for over 24 years, having the opportunity to live and work in many fantastic and challenging places around the world. Since arriving in Australia in 2013, I have worked in Health in various capacities for a number of years. I am currently working as a civilian Frontline Skills Instructor for the Queensland Police Service and have done so for over six years now.
I am also honoured to have been invited into Trek2Health as a Trek Leader after completing the program. I have additionally been appointed as the new Training and Logistics Manager for the organisation. I absolutely love being involved in this way and feel so grateful to be able to give back and help others go through this program.
Do you have a favourite hike?
I have had the opportunity to trek in some beautiful places around the world, but there’s two in particular that stand out. The first was the Inca Trail in Peru and the second was the trek to Everest Base Camp in the Himalayas. Both had their challenges, but the scenery was so amazing during both treks. Here in Queensland, my favourite trek has to be the final challenge of module 4, which is on K’Gari. This is roughly an 80km trek over 4 days, self-sustained with some amazing places to stop on the way, like having a welcomed swim at Lake McKenzie.
